Mike Bullmore In Action, Taken from The Blazing Center |
In 2008, Mike gave the Rom Lectures at TEDS which covered a lot of the philosophy of preaching that he was instilling in us when I was his student in the late nineties.
One idea that has long stuck with me is that in preaching we should not just try to repeat the intended meaning of the text from the original author to the original readers but to re-create the intended rhetorical effect the text was to have on its original audience. Not an easy thing to do, but what a terrific goal!
